The STAAR…replacing the TAKS!

Beginning in spring 2012, students will start a new voyage with the launch of the next testing program, called the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness or STAAR™.

What is STAAR?

STAAR is a more rigorous standardized testing program that will replace the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) for elementary, middle school, and high school students. The new STAAR program will emphasize “readiness” standards, which are the knowledge and skills that are considered most important for success in the grade or subject that follows and for college and career.

    Recycle Paper Here!

    Dear Parents,
Did you know that our school has a paper recycling program called the Abitibi Paper Retriever? You can recycle all of your newspaper, magazines, shopping catalogs, office and school papers and mail 24 hours/7 days a week right here in our green and yellow bin.

This is an easy way for you to recycle your paper every week and help us raise money for projects like playgrounds, landscaping, books, and other school needs. By recycling paper, not only do you save water and energy, but our school earns money for every pound of paper you help us collect.

Please put all of your magazines, mail, newspapers and office papers in the green and yellow bin in our parking lot; but do not include cardboard or phone books.

Thank you for your continued support of this important fundraising effort. read more . . .

Judges and volunteers are needed for the Austin Energy Regional Science Festival

Judges and volunteers are needed for the Austin Energy Regional Science Festival coming up in February at the Palmer Events Center. This is a great opportunity for people interested in meeting the next generation of young scientists from Central Texas.
The Austin Energy Regional Science Festival is among the largest of the 20 regional science fairs held in Texas. More than 3,500 elementary, middle and high school students and their families attend each year.
The festival offers a public viewing of the science projects, educational booths and scientific demonstrations for the kids. It is a valuable way to support our community by investing in our most important resource, our future.
Annually, we need approximately 200 general volunteers plus 200 judges for the Elementary Division and about 350 judges for the Junior (middle school) and Senior (high school) divisions.
If interested, please visit http://www.sciencefest.org/volunteer/index.php for more info, or contact Ms. Prescott at mprescott@harmonytx.org. "

Everyone’s help, from developing the Homeroom booth ideas, to bringing in much needed booth supplies, to gathering prizes, to manning the booths, to donating funds for festival supplies and rentals, to providing awesome tunes throughout the evening, to bringing our talented young dancers to perform, to cleanup, to simply attending the carnival & sharing your time and money with HSE, made our festival all that it was and will be! THANK YOU!! Together, we were able to raise $4200 towards the playground/commons area awnings. This is an enormous step towards that goal, accomplished by YOU – our HSE community!

Naviance Succeed

    Success starts with a plan
Academic success is about getting from point A to point B—turning potential into achievement, goals into accomplishments. It requires a plan—a road map that clearly guides each step toward a student’s desired destination.

At Naviance, we believe that every student has the potential for post-secondary success. We have developed an innovative solution that inspires and guides students towards career and college readiness. At the core of the philosophy behind the design of Naviance Succeed is a recognition that the decisions students make in their academic career are cumulative and choices made early on can have a far reaching impact on opportunities that are available to a student as they approach graduation.

With Naviance Succeed, HSE-Austin will be able to customize the career and college readiness experience by school, grade-level, groups and even individual students. With Naviance Succeed we can ensure that:

•Every student has meaningful goals for their future.
•Every student has a tangible, personalized and action-oriented plan for achieving his or her goals.
•Counselors, teachers and parents have the tools to effectively monitor and coach students toward their plan and goals.

High School only for this year.

    How you can log in?
